Alright we all know the Beatles had a HUGE impact on the music industry, but I like to think they paved the way so other bands could create other roads for bands to run on. These 10 bands are the ones I think help create new highways for rock music to pan out from: (not in any particular order either)

1) Led Zeppelin
2) The Who
3) The Doors
4) Pink Floyd
5) Rolling Stones
6) Queen
7) Black Sabbath
8) Cream
9) Sex Pistols
10) Def Leppard

Again these are mine. Whats yours?:icon_band

Your top 10 bands are all excellent, but I believe for the most part they credit the early Black/American blues artists as their inspiration. The first person to really bridge the racial gap and bring blues/rock into mainstream America, and hence the world was Elvis. I believe he had the most impact on the music industry in the 20th century.

I go with Elvis but if we are talking just bands I say Led Zeppelin.

Hmmm...Lest we forget Hendrix, Deep Purple, Santana, Cream, C.C.R. I mean holy crap there has to be a 100 bands and entertainers out there that all contributed to make the 60s' 70s' and uggg even the horrible 80s' most "forgettable" LOL.

But most of all "WOODSTOCK"

I really think Elvis had the biggest impact. Really, he started it all. I'm not disagreeing with your choices though as most of them are great. Def Leppard is my all time favorite! As for my choice in your poll, I would have to say Led Zeppelin as they were they only ones I like.

While Def Leppard are a very good band, I wouldn't say that they carved the way for others (except for giving hope to one-armed drummers!)

Bands like Bon Jovi, Iron Maiden etc were far bigger and probably better.

I agree that the black/american blues, Hendrix and the Elvis were a HUGE IMPACT as well. But I was just looking at bands. Next time I'll bring that up unless someone else does. I totally forgot Deep Purple and CCR! Im mad at myself for such. Thanks DOOMER! I put Def Leppard on there well because...I like them and autograph was my first album and casette tape and cd to own, and I never get sick of hearing ROCK OF AGES! As for the 80's...Glam Rock I loved bigtime! But I totally dig the late 60's and early/mid 70's ride! Next time we'll throw the 80's out there DOOMER! Thanks everyone for responding and polling. GIT ER DUNN!

I never get sick of hearing ROCK OF AGES!

Unter, glieben, glouchen, globen. Classic opening by Rik Allen!

I got their 4 CD box set from Switzerland when I travelled around for a month which had their first 4 albums. Brilliant!

Anyone remember the song "WOMEN" by Def Leppard? I still have the concert T-Shirt that has an alien pointing at chalk board with the word WOMEN spelled out from top to bottom and its meaning:

W orship
O ur
M asters
E very
N eeds

That shirt got me in trouble a lot in high school but it also gave me great memories!

I have to agree that Elvis Presley was pretty much the stepping stone for Rock n Roll along with the Beatles. I only mention those 2 because of their huge success. There were alot of great musicians from the era... I think Black Sabbath, Hendrix, The Doors, Iron Butterfly etc... opened the door for the heavy metal scene. (that's not including any 80's bands tho..just because your a guy with long hair and wear makeup  ...doesn't make you heavy metal..LOL )

Well I voted for the Stones. As for the top ten bands, I'd have to say Pink Floyd, Doors, Black Sabbath, CSN and Young, Cream all already mentioned. Now for individuals......Hendrix, Dylan, Boy George (hehe)

the biggest influence on music industry has to be Bill Haley & the Comets.. ok to those who wanna go WTF Bill Haley. Bill Haley took country & rhythm & blues & blended them together white music meets black. Rock Around the Clock was one of these classic tracks & was included in a film a year later 'Blackboard Jungle' basically rock & roll had begun. Bill Haley is probably the most forgotten man in history of Rock & Roll, he was about before the term rock & roll was born. DJ Alan Freed used to play Rock the Joint every night as Rock & Roll. The 1st recorded rock & roll record was 'Rocket 88' in 1951 by Bill Haley. If you think that was it well, the twist was a craze started by Bill Haley when he was in Mexico as a tax exile. Ok so he wasnt as hip good looking as Elvis Presley, which if he was younger at the time maybe he'd be the KING

By the early '60s he was reduced to playing rock and roll "revival" shows while the genre passed him by.

yip it was at start of happy days, ufrted wasnt influencing the whole genre of music enough, he was a pioneer who didnt really know it, we could still be listening to the modern equivelent of Frank Sinatra, Paul Anka or even worse music your parents actually liked :grin

might be interesting to poll older band against newer, who influences the younger more older band or newer

That would be a very interesting poll. Hard for an old fart like me to guess... but Im thinkin most people can appreciate the "roots" of rock. Especially in the UK, with such a history of classic rock bands to choose from. But then what do I know?....hip hop, rap,...could be the R+R of the 21st century.

Which reminds me of Listening to Golden Earring, Radar Love. That was the greatest song to listen to while driving to work. Course since I was always pushing the limits of being late it helped. Now the way the roads are So Dam congested it would probably be Slow Ride by Foghat. hehe

I cut my teeth on Led Zep, and I was fortunate enough to see them in concert here in Oklahoma way back in....was it 72 or 73 hehe ahhh showing my age again lol. My older brother gave me the Tolkein trilogy to read and it was soooo cool to hear the song No Quarter and realizing that the song was based on Tolkein's work :musik

This is what we call an arcade post, Dark-Knight. First post ever and it's one word. Usually done to get in the arcade and a great way to lose privileges. Hopefully it's a mistake on the posters part with being new and all and won't happen again.
