So much for Max Mosley saying he's "not a Formula One team principal" so he won't change his mind "every few minutes" regarding his decision to resign from his role as FIA President because guess what... he has.
Mosley announced at the beginning of the month that he would be stepping down as president of the FIA in October, a year before his mandate runs out. At the time the Brit was adamant that, that was his final decision and that he wouldn't be making a U-Turn.
However, less than three weeks down the line Mosley has had a change of heart, although it didn't come without a bit of a push from the eight most senior members of the FIA who comprise the FIA Senate.
An FIA statement announcing Mosley's decision to remain as President read: "At a meeting immediately following the FIA Extraordinary General Assembly on July 1st, 2004, the FIA Senate unanimously called on Max Mosley to rescind his decision to step down in October 2004 and to continue in office at least until the end of his mandate in October 2005. The Senate informed Mr Mosley that his early departure would damage the interests of the FIA. "
"The FIA Senate met in London today (Friday) and were informed by Max Mosley that he had received approaches from all sections of the FIA making the same points as the Senate and even going as far as to say that it would be irresponsible for him to step down this year."
"Accordingly, he feels bound to accede to the Senate's request. He expressed his thanks for the confidence shown in him both by the Senate and the full membership of the FIA."
