View Full Version : How to sew on a button....

Ok so Lady V has this REALLY BAD habit of meddling with loose buttons on her coats...in total she's pulled about 6 buttons off 2 coats  So between them I have one coat with all the buttons on it :P
Her mum, her usual sewer, is miles away back home and Lady V will probably not be home until Christmas Eve. She will freeze between now and then if she does not learn how to sew! So does anyone have any advice on how to sew?
I realize I'm 22 years old and female so I should be able to sew

Okay, got a needle and thread?
Is the thread at least a similar colour to the coat? Good!
Thread the thread through the eye of the needle, and double it over so the two ends meet.
Tie a know in the end, you may wanna tie another knot over the first one to make it bigger, so it doesn't just pop out the other side.
So, get your button, line it up with where you want it to go, and start from the under or inside of your coat, and push the needle through.
Put the button on top of the needle, through the hole or loop, depending on what kind of button it is, then pull the needle all the way through until the knot at the back is holding.
I'm not very clear, am I?
So, then take the needle, and go trough the opposite hole or loop and then take it down through the fabric of the coat to the under side again.
Repeat a few times until your button is secure then make a small stitch and pull halfway through, and put the needle in that loop and pull it to make a knot.
I think I've made a real dick of myself trying to explain that, so I really, really hope you get those buttons on!! :)

Okay, okay, first I need to know, coz we're in different countries and things are different here...when you say jelly, do you mean jam or the type of jelly we keep in the dungeon and wrestle in?

I thought the dungeon had jello in it and chocolate pudding!

Good catch, Manky! I meant jam. I will only eat jam. I will no longer wrestle in it. I was picking raspberry seeds out of my nooks and crannies for days after the last wrestling match. Still can't find the jam spreader!

Oh, no no!! We can't have you picking seeds out of your nooks and crannies - that will not do at all!!
I'll line up some likey persons to pick them out for you.
Preferably with their teeth.
